FAQs
Why learn to knit?
At KnitStarter, we believe that knitting is for everyone. Humans have been knitting for over 800 years for a reason- it’s useful, portable, and a soothing, meditative activity.
Today, the knitting community is growing rapidly. Some people like knitting because it gives them the opportunity to learn a new skill. Others like to knit to participate in the slow fashion movement by making clothes and accessories by hand. Many avid knitters enjoy the craft because it’s a soothing, meditative activity.
Whatever your reason, we believe that knitting is a valuable handcraft that anyone can learn!
What kit should I start with?
Our leveling system makes it easy to chose the right kit for you. Our Learn to Knit kit starts at level 0, and is designed with absolute beginners in mind. We send the stitches on your needles, so you can get down to the business of learning the knit stitch.
Read more about our levels here.
Do I need anything other than what’s in the kit?
The kit comes with all the supplies and tools you need. You may need a pair of scissors to cut your yarn at the end of your project, but any pair of scissors will work!
Do I have to start with the Learn to Knit kit?
Nope! If you’re an experienced crafter or just want a larger project, we recommend either a level 0 or a level 1 kit.
In a level 0 kit, stitches come on your needles.
In a level 1 kit, your first step will be casting on the correct number of stitches for your project.
Both kits have full tutorials for every step of the process.

How long do I have access to my tutorials?
Knitstarter is a platform as well as a knitting kit. When building the website, it was important for us to host our own videos on our own platform so we can control access. Once you buy our kit and create an account, you’ll have access to your tutorials forever.
Are KnitStarter kits appropriate for kids too?
KnitStarter kits are designed for adults, but we think our kits are approachable for kids in the 10+ age range. If your child has good hand dexterity and interest in learning a new craft, we’d love to teach them to knit through our kits!
Of course, an age range of 10+ is just a guideline. One easy way we like to test whether a kid is ready for a craft kit like this is whether they can tie their shoes independently.
Because our kits are designed for adults, we ask that adults register for our Learn platform and be on-hand to help their child work through the tutorials, if needed.
I need help with my project!
If you’re working on a kit and can’t find the answer in our help library, please reach out to us here at help@knitstarter.com. If possible, attach a photo of your project with your email, so we can help troubleshoot!
