Our Story

KnitStarter is a family business run by husband/wife team Nick Malaguti and Emily Kraft. After years teaching knitting classes in-person- and often telling students to take videos of demonstrations- Emily saw an opportunity for a new way to learn to knit.

As a teacher, Emily focuses on building understanding of how knitting works to build confidence in students.

Nick brings 15+ years experience in the software industry building products and leading high-performing engineering teams. From 2016-2020, he worked at an education technology company building a platform much like KnitStarter.

We believe that knitting can offer something for everyone - whether you’re looking for a quiet, mindful activity, the challenge of learning a new skill, or looking to invest in slow fashion by making garments yourself.

Our kits contain high-quality materials knitters love, like 100% merino wool yarn and wood needles, while our online platform provides succinct instruction so you can get started with your knitting journey.
